FILMING COMMENCES

THROW BACK

Review of Jodie's choreography from Aspects of Love

PREPARATION

An update on Chrysalis:

From my last post we had another week of training, finishing a piece to track called Galvanise! It has been an amazing process watching Jodie create this piece and be part of it. One of the many pieces we will be performing at the launch. It's edgy, complicated, intricate and overwhelming creation. I believe it will make the audience sit on the edge of their seats and not exhale a breathe till the piece ends. Captivating to watch and made me fully appreciate the talent I get to train and perform with most days. Although training can get hard physically and mentally, tiring and not to mention a choreography overload I love to learn and train with the Chrysalis company. Having trust in a piece and the choreography is a great feeling.

While the company went off to Leeds for 3 weeks, performing in Aspects of Love, there was time to reflect on what I needed to work on and practice so I was ready to get back in the studio after their return.

CHOOSE LIFE

http://youtu.be/VYMyghALKJs

CHOOSE LIFE was a piece of choreography we performed for Jodie back when I was in college during my second year.

Based on the film Trainspotting. It was an incredible piece depicting the story and recreating certain aspects of the film, such as the drug issues.

I loved performing this piece, I think Jodie created something immense and completely new. When I think about what companies are creating in the industry at this point, it makes me fully trust that the launch of Chrysalis London will be a complete surprise!

OLD STREET

After our week intensive we have since been training in the trendy area of East London, Old Street to be exact. At the ISTD Studios, every Thursday and Friday.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Let's start from the beginning. Our first week intensive with Jodie began in September at Tring School. We worked hard, we danced harder, and grew faster as dancers. The warm ups, combinations and sequences we learnt from Jodie began the start of our unveiling from Professional dancers into Chrysalis London Dancers. The training that week developed us and began to mould us to new dancers.

I felt so happy and grateful to be working and training again with Jodie. His classes have an amazing atmosphere and energy about them and I knew from that week onwards he was going to create incredible things with Chrysalis London.

HI!

My name is Iona Brieta Louise Storm Rosewell Harris but I just use Iona Brie, a crazy name I know but explains my personality!  I'm 24 from the wilds of Devon originally, but have been living in the capital for about 2 years on and off. Creating a blog on a rainy day sitting in the Southbank Centre so here goes.

Started dancing from the age of  3, the only hobbie my mum could get me to stick to ..... And after a while was the only thing I would think about and want to do. I love all dancing, obviously there's particular styles I connect to more but in my mind dancing is dancing no matter how you move your body.

At 18 I went on to train at Bodywork dance college for 4 years, both physical and mental training , was tough but fun. I guess it made me grow not only as a dancer but as a person. Once I graduated I moved to London and started focusing all my efforts on auditions and getting jobs. My most memorable job has to be travelling to China with a dance troupe for 3 months, the most incredible journey of my life, I danced everyday, met some amazing people and attempted to learn more than 3 words of Chinese ( failing terribly) .

However most professional dancers don't tell you about the years of working behind bars and the millions of promo jobs you do just to fund classes and rent in London, but you do it! And when you get rare opportunities such as joining Chrysalis London as a senior associate you jump at the chance. I was trained under the amazing expertise of Jodie Blemings from my 2nd year at college onwards. He has to be one of the only teachers that has really believed in me and my ability to improve, Jodie gave me the confidence to keep pushing my self , which brought a whole new enjoyable experience to college for me. Jodie nurtures individual talent, although we are dancing 'Blemings style' in rehearsals he knows exactly how everyone dancers in there own away and instead of dulling those moments he keeps them , moulds them and develops them so we can be the best dancers we can be. As cheesy as this sounds he has been a huge inspiration to me and I would not be the dancer (I am still training) if it weren't from learning so much from 'Mr Blemings'.

As I have never created, looked at or read a blog before this will be a learning experience for me. I will be posting pictures, videos and general chit chat about my journey with Chrysalis London and my other dance adventures. Hope you enjoy and all feedback welcome!!
